Matanzas, March 5th.- The 16th International Puppet Workshop Festival of Matanzas (Festitim) is finalizing details today for its celebration from March 17th to 22nd, returning to its original dates at the beginning of spring.
For six days, the city will host more than 30 performances in institutions of the historic center, along with concerts, workshops, conferences, literary presentations, and exhibitions that consolidate Matanzas as the puppet capital on the island.
This edition will be dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Pelusín del Monte, a character created by writer Dora Alonso and Pepe Camejo, and to the 35th birthday of the theater group Teatro Andante, from the eastern province of Granma.
The performances will this time take place in various institutions of Matanzas’ historic center, turning everything into a great celebration of life, highlighted the organizing committee in their statement.
The event will include the presentation of the Hermanos Camejo and Pepe Carril Distinction to masters Julio Cordero, Juan González Fiffe, Fara Madrigal, and Migdalia Seguí, as well as the debut of the UNIMA Cuba Award, which will recognize the Guiñol Theater of Holguín province and the Teatro Alas D’Cuba group.
With the participation of companies from Mexico, Spain, and Cuba, Festitim will reaffirm cultural diversity and the defense of puppetry theater identity, in a context marked by economic and environmental challenges.
The organizers emphasize that the event will be a meeting bridge for children, youth, and adults, under the sign of peace and creativity.
