Feb, 2026.- Hispanic American literary history finds a decisive episode in the confrontation between Góngora and Quevedo, where culteranismo and conceptualismo clashed. Within this framework, the satirical and burlesque vein found in the poets of the Spanish Golden Age a model that inspired the Group of Press and Language Service in Spain to establish the First Góngora and Quevedo Literary Prize for humorous poetry, with two categories: poetry collection and poem. In the latter category, the writer from Guáimaro, Diusmel Machado, was awarded for his work *Sympathetic Elegy of Gluttony*.
The satirical tradition, with humorous nuances, has traveled multiple paths and unfolded in countless forms, from narrow lanes to broad avenues. One of these routes extends from the heritage of Góngora and Quevedo to the singular voice of Diusmel Machado Estrada, a creator born in Guáimaro who continues that line with his own distinctive mark.
