Tradition and creativity marked the 235 years of Guáimaro (+ Posts)

Feb, 2026.- El mes de febrero resulta siempre muy significativo para los guaimareños. Los días 9 y 10, Guáimaro bate palmas por el nuevo aniversario de fundación del poblado. Este ´2026´ la región apagó 235 velitas con una variada propuesta cultural.

On the first day of festivities, on the eve of the commemorative date, the performance *The Tree of Books* was presented. It involved hanging copies of poetry, narrative, essays, novels, and children's literature on the trees in Constitución Park, inviting the public to take them as true treasures of knowledge and to interact with writing in all its forms.

The activity began at 2:00 p.m. and concluded with the opening of the Festival and the *Plaza Tomada* contest, an event that annually celebrates the city's birthday. In this edition, the award was given to the director of the Sosa-dance project, Leonardo Hernández Sosa.

On February 10th, the exact day of the celebration, the festivities began with the traditional Diana Mambisa. Later, the bells of the Church of La Purísima Concepción marked the official start of the event, followed by the reading of the Proclamation by Yelenis Saavedra, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power.

The Municipal Music Band gave a concert and, in the afternoon, the Literary Café “You and the Moon” hosted the evening for the 50th anniversary of the Municipal Literary Workshop Pablo de la Torriente Brau.
