Uneac reaffirms its commitment to Cuba and stands together with sister Venezuela

Havana, January 8th. – In the face of the events currently shaking Venezuela, the president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), Marta Bonet, reiterated that the organization will always stand alongside the homeland and in defense of just causes.

In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, Bonet condemned the military aggression of the United States government against the South American nation and urged denunciation of imperialism through all means at our disposal.

“We are living through a cruel and violent stage,” she pointed out, and a meeting like the one held the day before yesterday in Uneac’s Villena Hall “shows us that we are facing a ruthless fascism that is against everything and everyone.”

She recalled that the organization is celebrating its 65th anniversary, precisely in the year marking the centenary of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who conceived and founded the organization in 1961, shortly after the revolutionary triumph.

“That tradition of history and Revolution is what has accompanied Uneac throughout these 65 years,” she added.

“Once again, Cuban intellectuals and artists stand firm in defense of the homeland and socialism, because this organization has always been one of ‘homeland or death,’ and we will demonstrate this throughout the year and for as long as necessary, to support the Party and the Revolution in the processes to come,” she emphasized.

She called to denounce the empire from every expression and standpoint and to stand alongside the Cuban people, who suffer the loss of 32 brothers fallen in combat defending the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

She assured that this is another example of the internationalism taught to us by Fidel and Che, and therefore a responsibility to the history of Cuba that Uneac continues to be an organization of ‘homeland or death,’ faithful to the legacy of our Commander in Chief.

The organization’s Villena Hall hosted the day before yesterday the event "La Tertulia" with the panel "Historical Culture in Revolution. The Legacy of Fidel," from which participants voiced their condemnation of the U.S. attack on Venezuelan territory in the early hours of January 3rd.

The meeting became a platform to evoke Fidel Castro’s extraordinary contributions to the history of humanity, while reminding us that Uneac remains faithful to its ideals, alongside the homeland and in defense of just causes.
