Workers from Vectors in Guáimaro eradicate mosquito breeding sites

Guáimaro, March 3rd – Hygiene and Epidemiology specialists emphasize that the practice of self-focal inspection in homes, educational centers, and workplaces is the most effective strategy to halt the spread of Aedes aegypti and other disease-transmitting insects.

Preventive actions include keeping water containers closed, regularly removing waste, sealing pits, renewing the liquid in animal waterers, avoiding ritual containers, emptying and cleaning refrigerator trays, and above all, preventing tires from remaining exposed outdoors, as they become ideal breeding grounds.

Operators highlight that the priority is to eliminate any site that could serve as a refuge, as they represent the greatest infestation risk. They also insist on scrubbing the walls of tanks and containers, even when empty, because the eggs can survive more than a year in a dry state and, upon contact with water, quickly develop into larvae, pupae, and adults.

Self-focal inspection also contributes to controlling the presence of Aedes albopictus, another disease vector that persists in the region. When a focus is detected, focal treatment is applied, which includes abate, vessel scrubbing, and fumigation within a 300-meter radius to eradicate the threat.

Maintaining cleanliness in homes, yards, schools, workplaces, and community spaces through self-focal inspection is considered the best guarantee to protect public health.
