Love as a Principle of Civic Education

Love as a Principle of Civic Education

Mar, 2026 — The Cuban Constitution, in its fourth chapter, article 38, clearly establishes the duty of parents to guarantee food, protection, and support in the legitimate aspirations of their children, as well as to actively participate in their education and comprehensive formation within socialist society. At the same time, descendants have the obligation to respect and support those who gave them life.

More than a legal mandate, this principle becomes an inspiration for the families of Guáimaro, who assume the responsibility of raising conscious citizens capable of defending collective interests, strengthening values, and achieving personal goals. In this endeavor, the idea is reaffirmed that social usefulness and individual happiness are not opposing paths but complementary ones.

In the land where the Magna Carta was born, the family is conceived as a space of understanding and mutual respect. Parents, children, grandparents, and other relatives embrace the call to avoid conflicts, cultivate harmony, and sustain true love — that extraordinary feeling José Martí described, which must transcend generations.

The joint work of legal, educational, political institutions, and mass organizations strengthens the protection of the family, considered an essential unit of society. The satisfaction of basic needs and the comprehensive development of each person depend to a great extent on this nucleus, which constitutes the support and cradle of social life.

The coordination between school and home, the contribution of the House of Guidance for Women and Families, and the backing of legal entities consolidate care for children, monitoring their academic performance, and effective communication between parents and descendants.

The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), for its part, promotes the training of women to achieve an equitable distribution of roles at home, where each member assumes shared responsibilities and mutual respect is encouraged.
