Young people from Camagüey transform their environment with work, culture, and constant solidarity

Camagüey dawns with the echo of a youth that, against all odds, is determined to make the news. It is not easy to be young in these times, but if anything distinguishes the youth of this land, it is that mixture of creative rebellion and obstinacy that makes them seem immortal.

I have seen them in classrooms, with worn-out notebooks and ignited intelligence, navigating shortages with the creativity that only youth can provide. They are the ones who fill universities with uncomfortable questions and enormous dreams, the ones who turn every obstacle into a stepping stone to continue growing.

I have also seen them in workshops and in the small ventures that bloom like flowers among the stones. There are those who repair a bicycle with the patience of an artisan, those who cultivate the land with the certainty that the fruit will arrive.

In clinics and community spaces, the youth of Camagüey also shines. They are the ones who organize film debates to talk about mental health without fear, those who bring a friendly word to the neighbor in need, those who turn a park into a cultural stage. Teenage pregnancy does not defeat them; they face it with information and support, because they know that caring for the body is also caring for the soul.

And what can be said of their social participation, that spark that ignites entire neighborhoods? The Community Youth Network is the heartbeat of hundreds of young people who organize themselves into projects of defense, production, communication, and solidarity. They go house to house, with no tool other than the word and the example, embracing those who were alone and rescuing those who had been lost in discouragement.

Youth is not perfection; it is impulse. A mixture of audacity and tenderness that makes them err and rise, fall and start again. They are the living memory of this city and its most certain future.

Young people, do not expect the world to give you anything; the future is built with hands, with sweat, and with the word. And although the challenges are enormous, stay there, firm, like the tinajones that have seen history pass without bending.

As long as there is a young person willing to study, to work, to care, and to participate, Camagüey will continue to be that stone princess that beats with the heart of its children.
