Vietnam sees a medical milestone with the birth of the first US-HIFU baby

Dec. - The birth in Vietnam of the first "US-HIFU baby," the child of a patient previously diagnosed with multiple fibroids, including large tumors in the left and posterior walls of the uterus, is regarded as a milestone in modern medicine.

This non-invasive technique, besides providing effective treatment, opens up maternity opportunities for many women who previously faced the risk of infertility, highlighted the government-run electronic newspaper when presenting the information.

Referring to the mentioned case, it detailed that "Mrs. T" had suffered a previous miscarriage as a result of the multiple uterine fibroids detected, so at the end of 2024, she underwent HIFU ultrasound treatment.

The procedure, it added, was entirely non-surgical and bloodless, and just a few hours after the intervention, the patient was able to walk, resume her normal activities, and quickly return to her daily life.

"Surprisingly, just three months after the treatment, the woman conceived naturally without the need for assisted reproduction techniques," the publication noted, emphasizing that throughout the pregnancy the fetus developed steadily and the fibroids continued to shrink over time.

The baby was born healthy on November 26, 2025, at 38 weeks of gestation, weighing 3.4 kilograms, in a delivery considered special, clearly demonstrating the dual effectiveness of US-HIFU technology: successfully treating gynecological conditions and preserving female fertility.

In Vietnam, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) began to be used at the end of 2024 at the Thien An Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital.

Since then, more than one hundred cases have been treated, including 55 uterine fibroids, 41 adenomyosis, two abdominal endometriosis, and one case each of breast fibroids and liver cancer.

According to the vice president of the Vietnam Medical Association, Nguyen Viet Tien, at a scientific conference held last April, none of the patients experienced complications after treatment, and all recovered quickly.

Follow-up examinations after one month showed a significant reduction of more than 60 percent for uterine fibroids and over 80 percent for adenomyosis.

The successful application of US-HIFU is expected to help people in Vietnam access advanced medical techniques without the need for costly treatments abroad and offer hope to many women who wish to become mothers but are hindered by complex gynecological diseases.
