The second duo from Cuba, made up of Damián Gómez and Eblis Verane, has a chance to qualify for the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championship, as reported by the Norceca confederation.
The Antilleans would replace the American pair of Miles Partain and Andrew Benesh, in case they secure their spot through the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ranking, which will be made official on October 6.
Gómez and Verane finished fifth in the Norceca pre-world tournament held in Punta Cana from September 19 to 21, outside the four spots awarded by the competition.
If they achieve qualification, the players under 23 years old would join the main duo from the island, Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, who qualified due to their outstanding position in the FIVB world ranking.
The younger pair has won silver medals (last Sunday in Punta Cana) and bronze medals in the Varadero (May) and Guadalajara (September) stages of the North, Central American, and Caribbean circuit.
Also qualifying for the universal event to be held in the Australian city of Adelaide from November 14 to 23 are Samuel Schachter-Jonathan Pickett (Canada), Cristian Encarnación-Diego Rosich (Puerto Rico), and Rubén Mora-Dany López (Nicaragua), ranked in that order in the pre-world tournament, behind Partain and Benesh. In the women's sector, Marie-Alex Bélanger-Lea Monkhouse (Canada), María González-Allanis Navas (Puerto Rico), Yari Cleto-Julibeth Payano (Dominican Republic), and Susana Torres-Atenas Gutiérrez (Mexico) qualified.
Cuban players Keilín Garrido and Maykelín Drigg, also under 23 years old, were eliminated after finishing in sixth place in a circuit where they earned bronze medals at the Varadero and Guadalajara stops.
