San Salvador, Dec. 10 – With just under a year and a half remaining before the presidential elections in February 2027, President Nayib Bukele continues to enjoy overwhelming support from his compatriots, a survey revealed today.
The Gallup survey found that 90 percent of Salvadorans—nine out of ten—feel sympathy for their leader, and an equal percentage approve of his performance in leading the country’s affairs.
The poll covered various aspects of Salvadoran reality, especially in political and economic areas, and for example, showed that 88 percent of those surveyed said they felt proud of their president.
It is noteworthy that when asked about their party preferences, 62 percent said they had none or did not know, while 29 percent leaned towards Nuevas Ideas, confirming Bukele's influence at the time of voting.
More distant preferences included five percent of respondents favoring the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) and four percent supporting the Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena), the two political parties that alternated in government at the start of the century.
Regarding the economic situation, 46 percent said they felt the same, 40 percent felt better, and 14 percent worse than 12 months ago.
The survey also identified the main concerns of Salvadorans, with 28 percent pointing to the cost of living, 13 percent housing, the same percentage energy, 12 percent health, eight percent employment, six percent water, and one percent citing crime as the primary concern.
The study, presented by Gallup’s general manager, Luis Haug, found that 90 percent of the population expressed a positive opinion of Bukele, with only five percent expressing a negative view.
It also addressed the positive prospects for the president to run again in the contest scheduled for February 28, 2027, following the constitutional reform promoted by Nuevas Ideas in the Legislative Assembly that approved indefinite reelection.
