Moscow confirms meeting between Russian and Iranian foreign ministers

Moscow, December 15 – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will make a working visit to Russia on December 17 and will hold talks with his counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced today.

Earlier, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Baghaei, stated that Araghchi will travel to Belarus on December 15 and will visit Russia on the 16th and 17th.

Baghaei specified that the Iranian foreign minister will meet on December 16 with representatives of the State Duma (the lower house of the Russian Parliament) and on the 17th he will hold a meeting with Lavrov.

“On December 17, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, will make a working visit to Moscow. Talks are planned with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov,” the statement indicates.

According to the note, the Russian and Iranian foreign ministers intend to thoroughly discuss current international issues, including the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program, and exchange views on regional matters of mutual interest.

Special attention will be given to current topics on the traditionally intense bilateral agenda of Russian-Iranian relations, which reached a very different level of comprehensive strategic partnership following the entry into force of the new interstate treaty on October 2, 2025, the Russian Foreign Ministry concluded.
