Camagüey, May 20.- With a generation capacity of five megawatts (MW) and one megawatt of storage, the construction of the photovoltaic park in the municipality of Guáimaro, Camagüey province, is 26 percent complete, aiming to contribute to the stability of the National Electric System (SEN).
During this strategic project, Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia, the provincial governor, inspected the assembly this Tuesday of 102 structures so far out of the 174 planned for the first stage, while 16 additional foundations have already been excavated to continue the installation.
Sutil Sarabia indicated that the productive bases will ensure support for the workforce of the executing company, ECOT Cayo Cruz, while also promoting job rotations and employment fairs to meet the various specialties required as construction progresses.
According to Rolando González Rodríguez, Director of Investments at the Camagüey Electric Company, the photovoltaic park will feature two inverters and 348 structures with 9,050 panels. In addition to contributing to the SEN—amid frequent total or partial blackouts—the megawatt of storage capacity could help guarantee the continuity of certain basic services.
He specified that the province currently has five smaller installations generating 12 megawatts, while the Luaces plant in Vertientes and the La Cívica plant in the Camagüey municipality each deliver 21.8 megawatts to the SEN. Simultaneously, construction continues on the Ortigal plant in Florida, which will have the same capacity.
Also, while participating in a sustainability meeting in Guáimaro, the governor insisted on strengthening focal treatment, noting the need to complete the workforce of operators to prevent the high transmission of arboviruses.
Similarly, he emphasized the importance of intersectoral cooperation, respect for hygiene habits, the elimination of environmental conditions that favor vector proliferation, and public participation through the "Mi Barrio por la Patria" movement.
