Harare, March 2nd – The Herald, Zimbabwe's main newspaper, today reflected Cuba's categorical rejection of the attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, which constitute a threat to regional and international peace and security.
"Cuba condemns in the strongest terms the attacks carried out on February 28 by the United States and Israel, which violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran," stated the declaration from the Caribbean island's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The attacks violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Persian nation and constituted a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added.
According to Havana, as reported by The Herald, these actions undermined ongoing diplomatic efforts related to the Iranian nuclear program and described this aggression as irresponsible and deliberate.
Cuba affirmed that the actions of Washington and Tel Aviv once again endanger regional and international peace, stability, and security, adding that their effects were already being felt in the Middle East.
The Caribbean nation joined international calls for the immediate cessation of the attacks, which, it states, have caused an undetermined number of civilian casualties, including children.
It also warned of an escalation of the conflict and the use of military force driven by hegemonic interests that could drag other countries in the region into the conflict, with unpredictable consequences.
The Zimbabwe daily spreads the call to preserve good neighborliness between Iran and the Arab States at a delicate moment, as well as the strict respect for the principles of International Law and the Charter of the United Nations, including the sovereign equality of States and non-interference in internal affairs.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also urged the prohibition of the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Cuba – emphasized The Herald – called on the UN Security Council to exercise its primary responsibility to maintain international peace and security and urged the General Assembly to mobilize the international community to restore peace with urgency and determination.
