José Martí and Fidel Castro will be honored on their anniversaries

La Paz, January 27th.- The magazine Correo del ALBA highlights today from Bolivia in its digital edition the 173rd anniversary of the birth of José Martí (January 28) and the centenary of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

“(...) In the center of La Paz, in the square that bears his name, the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba together with the Cuban Embassy in Bolivia invite the public to a political-cultural event in order to pay tribute (...) on the occasion of the anniversary of his birth,” the publication emphasizes about the author of *Nuestra América* as it introduces an exclusive interview with the island’s ambassador, Elba Rosa Pérez.

“His thought, work, and example remain fully relevant as they continue to serve as a guide for current and future generations not only in Cuba (...)”, affirmed the diplomat.

Pérez recalled Martí’s calls for the unity of Latin American and Caribbean peoples to face the United States, and stressed that these are more urgent than ever following the invasion ordered by President Donald Trump against Venezuela with the purpose of kidnapping President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

She emphasized that “Trump’s recent threats against the Cuban government and people have been met with calm and strengthened preparation, information, and unity. Cuba is a free, sovereign, and independent nation and has been familiar with these methods since the beginning of the Revolution’s triumph,” she said.

She added that Cuba does not aggress, does not provoke, does not threaten; it is an example of humanism, solidarity, and has decided to choose its own political system.

Regarding the event that will take place this Wednesday in downtown La Paz, the diplomat indicated that it is only the prelude to a year whose hallmark will be the centenary of the birth of Fidel Castro, who is already the focus of activities of all kinds in his memory.

“The first tribute was to declare 2026 in Cuba as the Year of his Centenary. Consequently,” the ambassador stated, “multiple activities related to his extensive work have been scheduled that will cover all sectors of Cuban society.”

She reported that in many countries, including Bolivia, activities such as theoretical events, discussions, keynote lectures, exhibitions, and concerts are planned, aimed at remembering his legacy, with an emphasis on solidarity and internationalism.

“The appointment is set: this Wednesday, January 28, at José Martí Square in La Paz (Ayllón Ave. No. 544), at 10:00 AM, to honor the memory of Martí, Fidel, and the Cuban Revolution,” concludes the digital edition of Correo del ALBA.
