South Korea donated 24,600 tons of rice to Cuba.

Havana, Dec. - The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Korea donated 24,600 tons of rice to Cuba, delivered through the World Food Programme (WFP), intended for vulnerable people and pregnant women throughout the country, the United Nations System in Cuba reported via its social media.

Half of the shipment was unloaded at the port of Santiago de Cuba to double for five months the quotas that the WFP distributes in the eastern provinces, the organization's representation on the island specified.

The rest of the shipment will arrive through Havana, with the aim of doubling deliveries to the prioritized population of the other provinces, in a bimonthly distribution modality that will extend for one year.

International cooperation strengthens food security and guarantees national coverage for the most needy sectors, according to information released by the WFP.

The agency specified that the assistance will allow expanding the emergency response and supporting the recovery of communities affected by recent meteorological phenomena, such as Hurricane Melissa.
