The pictorial world of the Gelpi

The pictorial world of the brothers Enrique and Alfredo Díaz Gelpi is promising within the realm of visual arts in Holguín and has transcended the cultural borders of Cuba throughout all their eras as creators.

Enrique has painted beautiful canvases titled "Prisoner," "Memories," "Supplication," "Ecstasy," "Temptation," and "Escape," where he has unleashed an imagination that blends with his palette, taking from it the most appropriate colors for the themes he develops, always having the woman as a muse who inspires him and makes his creations flow.

Alfredo, on the other hand, has presented his themes in various exhibitions under the titles "The Sleeping Demon," "Siege," "Meditation," "Inner Conflict," "Blessed," and "Convention of Dreams." In these, the viewer can also enjoy a beauty depicted with great care and intelligence. Natural gifts that, combined with his talent, have made him one of the most promising creators in the visual arts on the "most beautiful land."

The paintings of these brothers are characterized by greater use of warm colors to convey the psychological aspects portrayed by the artists, which allows their pictorial creations to have a unique familial and artistic stamp within the artistic world of Holguín. This achievement has enabled their works to be exhibited in Argentina, Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico, and the United States of America.

Their exhibitions have reflected themes related to dreams, women, everyday life, meditation, and love.

They are true lovers of feminine beauty, as reflected in their works, but beyond the theme of women, the Gelpi brothers address in their compositions topics of nature mixed with surrealist eroticism related to the beauty of the Eves that inhabit the Island and their minds.

The Gelpi family has been included in major group exhibitions in Rome and Buenos Aires, and they have participated as guest artists in shows by colleagues at ExpoCuba and ExpoArte in Havana. The Provincial Art Center of the City of Holguín and the Tele-Cristal Gallery, among other important cultural institutions, have hosted their more than 50 solo, guest, and group exhibitions.

From the depths of these creators have emerged sublime works, rich in concepts that invite reflection, achieving communication with these authors who are true formidable gnomes of the art of color and the depiction of lines and figures, reaching beyond the spiritual richness of the human genre with works made from the most absolute spontaneous creation, far from commercial sketches, and precise in the presence of the most intimate experiences.

The mastery of their hands, when carefully selecting the color mixtures on the palette and executing them on canvas, has long allowed, and will continue to allow, both Enrique and his brother Alfredo to reach a promising professional horizon in their still young careers in the world of visual arts, not only Cuban but also universal.
