Camagüey healthcare system adopts measures for patient care

Camagüey, February 10th — As part of the measures adopted by the Public Health System in response to the complex situation caused by limitations in the country's fuel supply, conditions are being created in the territory to protect patients receiving hemodialysis services, aiming to guarantee their medical care and quality of life.

Dr. Carlos Morán Giraldo, head of the Provincial Directorate, specified that addressing the main risk that may affect people undergoing this treatment during the current circumstances—due to the distance from the city of Camagüey and the decentralization of students from the University of Medical Sciences to areas within the university’s student residences—conditions were created to accommodate patients and their relatives.

Another group receiving chemotherapy treatments at the Marie Curie Oncology Hospital, coming from Las Tunas and Ciego de Ávila, will also be able to stay on-site to receive the required medical care.

Lester Marrero Molina, rector of Carlos J. Finlay University, emphasized that, based on contingency experiences at the institution itself, the place was prepared in a short period of time, which will ensure a favorable stay for patients and their companions during the duration of the restrictions.

In addition to the guaranteed basic services at the facility, this alternative will be supported by a contingent from the University Student Federation, together with a team of doctors and nursing staff who will assist the population with general care within the institution.

In a very complex scenario for the country, due to the intensification of the United States' policy against the island by exerting maximum pressure with an energy blockade that affects the nation’s economic and social activity, the Cuban State maintains public health vital services as a priority, such as hemodialysis and chemotherapy treatment for patients who require them.
