Higher Education in Guáimaro Facing the Challenges of the Energy Situation (+Photos)

Guáimaro, Feb 11 - The idea of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, to bring the university closer to the municipalities takes on indisputable importance in light of the most recent measures by the United States government, which intensify the unjust economic, commercial, and financial embargo imposed on the archipelago for more than 60 years.

In response to the current energy situation, higher education has had to adjust the teaching-educational process, and among the sector's measures are those that emphasize the coordination of the main academic campuses with their counterparts in the localities.

M.Sc. Yilmys Renato Pascual Sánchez, director of the Municipal University Center (CUM) Guáimaro, expresses the institution's collective commitment to the quality of professional training under conditions where blended learning and distance education supported by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) will be essential.

In addition to the usual tasks of the CUM, attention is given to students from the area who are pursuing degrees at other universities and provinces, an experience with precedents during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

As such, the local context becomes a space for access to knowledge through the mediation of study guides, activities for self-learning; digital packages with guidelines, bibliography, and essential content; as well as teacher consultations according to pedagogical instructions.

Pascual Sánchez states that the semi-presential-virtual-territorial model will allow the continuity of the educational process both for the Regular Daytime Course and for those enrolled in the Course by Encounter modality, although it requires greater effort from both students and teachers.

Likewise, it specifies that the activities of the programs at the Guaimare university campus will occur on a biweekly basis; meanwhile, the methodological frameworks will continue to focus on solving local problems through sustained and profound educational work.
