Incident at Diez de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant Did Not Cause Significant Damage

Camagüey, December 7 - The fire in one of the boiler ducts of Block 6 at the Diez de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant caused the forced shutdown of this unit, which was supplying 60 megawatts (MW) to the National Electric System (SEN) at the time of the incident.

According to statements made to Granma by the plant director, Jorge Luis Maceira Esteva, the repair work is estimated to last 72 hours once it can begin. The recovery process will start when the affected duct has cooled sufficiently to allow the damaged section to be replaced.

The official assured that the fire did not cause significant damage to other components of the generating block. Therefore, once this specific fault is resolved, the unit will be ready to begin its startup process to rejoin the system.

The shutdown of this plant represents a loss of generating capacity for the SEN, which was already facing a significant generation deficit on this day.

The workers at the Diez de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant are already preparing to begin repair work and aim to complete it as quickly as possible.
