Municipal Museum of Guáimaro, synonymous with history and legacy (+ Videos and Photos)

January, 2026.- The Municipal Museum of Guáimaro is one of the most significant cultural symbols of the region.

Erected in 1925 and declared a National Monument in 1979, it occupies the very site where the first Constituent Assembly of Cuba in Arms was held, an event that gave rise to the Republic.

The building, of eclectic style with neoclassical features, functioned as a public school until 1975, when it was transformed into a museum.

This majestic cultural building acquired monumental status in 1982 when it became a Museum-Mausoleum, after the remains of the distinguished Camagüey patriot Ana Betancourt de Mora were deposited there. Her mausoleum, carved from Jaimanita rock, features a sphinx crowned by a bronze representation honoring the defense of Cuban women.

The Guáimaro Museum preserves pieces that testify to the independence struggle and the political life of the nation: furniture, documents, and objects that accompanied meetings and agreements of figures such as Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Ignacio Agramonte, and Salvador Cisneros Betancourt. Each room of the venue conveys the legacy of those who forged the nation and reinforces the pride of being, now and forever, ¡Guaimareños!

Visiting this historic and cultural space is a reunion with the roots of the Cuban legend and with the memory of a people who transformed their identity into heritage.
