Ankara, January 30 - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan, stated today that starting a new war against Iran would be a mistake and called for prioritizing the diplomatic path to resolve existing tensions.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Fidan said that he has consistently recommended to the United States to address its differences with Tehran gradually and not as a single package.
Attacking Iran is a mistake, and restarting the war is also a mistake. When negotiations begin, Iran will be ready to return to the dialogue table on the nuclear issue, emphasized the Turkish foreign minister.
He explained that trying to address all disagreements simultaneously makes their resolution difficult and can be counterproductive. My constant advice to the Americans has been to solve problems one by one, starting with the nuclear file and then moving on to other matters, he added.
Fidan warned that presenting all demands jointly not only complicates their understanding by Iran but can also be perceived as humiliating, which makes it difficult to explain to both Iranian leaders and other regional leaders.
Referring to analyses about the possible formation of a new regional order led by the United States alongside strong states and excluding non-state actors, the Turkish foreign minister considered that Iran could occupy a relevant position. I am not talking about the current situation, but about the capacities and potential that Iran can demonstrate, he specified.
Finally, Fidan revealed that he visited Tehran two months ago, where he held frank conversations with senior Iranian officials and emphasized the need for Iran to take measures to build greater trust in the region.
